With a combined strength of over 15,000 Victorian emergency services workers, the ESF represents a strategic alliance between the The Police Association, United Firefighters’ Union and Ambulance Employees Union. The success of the three unions in combining to thwart the Bracks Government’s attempts to seize control of ESSS during 2005 demonstrated the value of joint action. The formation of the ESF serves notice to the Government that police and emergency services workers will bring the same unity of purpose they show every day in their dangerous working environment to common industrial campaigns for improved and safer working conditions.

A joint Executive meeting of The Police Association, United Firefighters’ Union and Ambulance Employees Australia formally endorsed the formation of the ESF on 23 February 2006 – the first combination of its kind to be formed in Australia.

Despite the formation of this unique alliance, all three unions will continue to retain their autonomy by maintaining their own separate activities, assets and rules.

The Police Association looks forward to campaigning jointly with its emergency services colleagues on issues of mutual interest in the future under the new ESF banner and logo, as featured on this page.
