The Association’s key objectives are expressed in its rules, known as the Articles and Memorandum of Association. These are outlined, as follows;
- to promote the interests of members of The Police Association;
- to regulate the relations between members of the Association and the Victoria Police Force;
- to improve the conditions of employment and service and to promote the welfare of members generally;
- to undertake any activity which may further the social enjoyment of members of the Association;
- to protect the rights, powers and privileges of the members of the Association subject to the approval of the Executive of The Association;
- to assist members who have been injured in the execution of their duty and to safeguard the interests of members in such cases, subject to the approval of the Executive of The Association.
In line with these objectives, the Association provides the following services and benefits to members;

Industrial representation, advocacy and advice on all issues relevant to members' employment, including health & safety, workers compensation and issues concerning equal employment opportunity and workplace conflict.

Representation, advocacy and advice on work-related legal and discipline matters, including legal services provided by the Association's legal advisers.

A variety of welfare benefits and services to members and their family, including 24 hour counseling services and provision of holiday accommodation.

Assistance with research material/information.
