Association Discussions with Force and Government Bring Positive Outcomes
Mass Meeting of Sunday 7 August Cancelled

The Special General Meeting scheduled for this Sunday 7 August 2005 has been cancelled after significant progress was achieved from discussions held last Friday and yesterday between the Association and representatives from the Victoria Police Force and Government.

The Association took a strong position on these discussions on behalf of members, especially in light of the staunch stand taken by members and delegates at various meetings held during the past three weeks.

The extensive discussions between the parties achieved significant progress on all key issues in this dispute. While some differences still remain, we’re confident they can be worked through from further discussions planned to take place.

Following this outcome, the Association has received an assurance from Government that it will not proceed with plans to introduce the proposed amendments to Cabinet next week.

As a result of these positive developments, the Association Executive, as a sign of good faith, this morning decided against proceeding with a Special General Meeting scheduled for this Sunday 7 August at Dallas Brooks Hall.

The Association will soon provide members with details regarding the progress of our discussions with the Force and Government regarding this dispute.

We take this opportunity to sincerely thank you, the members and delegates, for attending the various meetings held during the past days and weeks and for the firm stand you adopted on this issue.
