Members are reminded that the special meeting of members scheduled for this Sunday 7 August 2005 at Dallas Brooks Hall has been cancelled.
As we reported in our last newsletter, this decision was made after significant progress was achieved from extensive discussions held last Friday and on Monday between the Association and representatives from the Victoria Police Force and Government over proposed changes to the Police Regulation Act.
These discussions saw progress made on all key issues in this dispute. While some differences still remain, we’re confident they can be worked through from further discussions planned to take place.
Following this outcome, the Association received an assurance from Government that it had scrapped plans to introduce their original proposals to Cabinet next week.
The Association’s decision to cancel this Sunday’s special meeting was taken as a sign of good faith, given that further discussions are planned to try and overcome some relatively minor points of difference that still remain.
Association Delegates will soon receive a summary of the status of this matter, including an outline of the progress made during the latest discussions between the parties on each element in dispute.
We once again take this opportunity to sincerely thank you, the members and delegates, for attending the various meetings held during the past days and weeks and for the firm stand you adopted on this issue.
