The Police Association ("The Association") was today advised by the Chief Commissioner of Police that Victoria Police wished to exercise its option to extend the length of the current Certified Agreement. This is in accordance with the terms of the current Agreement, which provides to the employer to extend the Agreement for six months on the basis of an additional payment of 2% wage increase.
Notwithstanding the advice from the Chief Commissioner, the Association is committed to the finalisation of a Log of Claims and its endorsement by the membership in the first half of 2006 and will actively seek to negotiate a new Certified Agreement in the second half of 2006 and prior to the expiration of the current Agreement.
It is the intention of the Association to make irrelevant the Chief Commissioner's offer to extend the 2001 Certified Agreement by rejecting any extension of the Agreement. The Association aims to strike a new Agreement prior to December 2006.
