The second in the current series of issues raised for government consideration by the Chief Commissioner is that of Private Interest Declarations.
This proposal would require each and every member of the Victoria Police Force to complete a declaration regarding their private interests, to be held by the Chief Commissioner.
In order that such a requirement be ‘complete’ the Chief Commissioner has requested that each person in the immediate family of a member of the force would be required to complete such a declaration – this would include parents, grandparents, siblings, spouse’s and children.
The Association remains convinced that there is absolutely no need for such a proposal and further believes that such a request sends a message to the community that the Chief Commissioner does not trust our members.
The Association does not believe there is any justification for such a request and has objected (and will continue to) in the strongest possible terms to the inclusion of such a proposal in the Bill.
The Association is to conduct meetings of members to discuss this and other proposals for the Victoria Police Bill which the Government intends to introduce into the Spring 2005 Session of Parliament.
The work place meetings will provide you with the opportunity to inform us of exactly what you think of these and other proposed changes.
On your behalf, The Association will take your responses to Government.
