Further to an earlier newsletter in relation to the current series of workplace meetings being held by The Police Association on the changes being proposed by the Chief Commissioner and the Government, further meetings have been held during this week.
The message being overwhelmingly sent by the membership to the Government and the Chief Commissioner is clear and simple – DON’T ERODE OUR RIGHTS AND TREAT US LIKE SECOND CLASS CITIZENS!
In workplace meetings held in recent days, that were once again very well-attended, members overwhelmingly carried the following resolutions;
"THIS MEETING NOTES WITH OUTRAGE CHANGES BEING PROPOSED BY THE CHIEF COMMISSIONER AND THE GOVERNMENT TO THE POLICE REGULATION ACT THAT WILL SEVERELY ERODE THE FUNDAMENTAL RIGHTS OF POLICE OFFICERS."
"THIS MEETING CALLS ON THE CHIEF COMMISSIONER AND THE GOVERNMENT TO STOP THE PROGRESS OF THESE PROPOSED CHANGES TO THE POLICE REGULATION ACT THAT WILL ADVERSELY IMPACT ON POLICE MEMBERS AND THEIR FAMILIES."
"THIS MEETING CALLS ON THE POLICE ASSOCIATION TO UNDERTAKE ALL POSSIBLE ACTION TO RESIST THE IMPLEMENTATION OF THE CHANGES TO THE POLICE REGULATION ACT, INCLUDING THE SCHEDULING OF A SPECIAL GENERAL MEETING OF MEMBERS AND THEIR FAMILIES."
"THIS MEETING CALLS ON THE POLICE ASSOCIATION TO PURSUE WITH GOVERNMENT THE ESTABLISHMENT OF A POLICE CAREER SERVICES COMMISSION AND TO IMPROVE THE SAFEGUARDS CONTAINED IN SECTION 123 OF THE POLICE REGULATION ACT TO INDEMNIFY POLICE OFFICERS IN THIS STATE AGAINST ANY FORM OF CIVIL ACTION."
"THAT THIS MEETING ENDORSES THE TAKING OF UNPROTECTED INDUSTRIAL ACTION IF THIS ISSUE REMAINS UNRESLOVED TO THE SATIFACTION OF OUR MEMBERS."
"THAT THIS MEETING CALLS ON THE POLICE ASSOCIATION TO DRAFT A MEMBERS’ CHARTER OF RIGHTS IN ORDER TO ASSIST IN IMMEDIATELY STOPPING THESE PROPOSED CHANGES FROM BEING IMPLEMENTED."
"AS A RESULT OF CONTINUING UNFAIR PUBLIC COMMENT ABOUT OUR MEMBERS, THIS MEETING ENDORSES A RESOLUTION OF CENSURE AGAINST THE POLICE OMBUDSMAN, MR GEORGE BROUWER."
"AS A RESULT OF THE PROPOSED CHANGES TO THE POLICE REGULATION ACT, THIS MEETING EXPRESSES A VOTE OF NO CONFIDENCE IN THE CHIEF COMMISSIONER."
Your Association Delegates will attend a special meeting to discuss the proposed changes next Wednesday 27 July. This meeting will be followed by a mass meeting of members – and their family members - to be held at the Rod Laver Arena on Sunday 7 August 2005, commencing at 11:00am.
Further details of this meeting, including transport arrangements will be provided in subsequent newsletters.
