The current EB 2006 Draft Log of Claims contains the term frontline policing for the purposes of allocating Leading Senior Constable positions. Presently, General duties, Transit, Force Response Unit and the Traffic Alcohol Section fall within this definition.
Some members have expressed concern and confusion with the term 'frontline policing'.
The Police Association wishes to strongly reinforce to all members that the use of the term 'frontline' does not in any way reflect the duties or nature of work performed by members within other areas. This term is in no way meant to devalue the important work performed by all members who clearly work at the forefront of policing.
Indeed, many other areas within policing, other than those outlined above, are, to all intents and purposes, frontline. This term has only been used for the purpose of collectively defining a group of workplaces that fit the profile requiring LSC classification (for the purpose of defining Master Patrol Officer in the draft claim).
The draft log of claims is an evolving document, subject to change and refinement. We encourage you to forward feedback to your delegates so that your views continue to be reflected in the preparation of this claim.
In light of your feedback, different terminology will be introduced into the draft log of claims to better reflect the true intent of the document.
