On Wednesday 12 October 2005, the Secretary of The Police Association received a requisition by not less than 150 members of The Police Association to hold a Special Meeting.
The notice of motion, supported by the requisition, is outlined as follows;
“That the President Janet MITCHELL stand down from her duly elected position as executive member for failing to follow the democratic process on the basis that she used her presidential casting vote to reject the democratic motions passed at the delegates conference on the 14th of September 2005”.
The motions referred to above are as follows;
1. The selection process for a new Secretary be suspended
2. A genuine process of conciliation be implemented as a matter of urgency to mediate an outcome acceptable to both parties
3. Reaffirmation of the delegates’ motion of March 2005 relating to the offer of an extension to the Secretary’s current contract
4. The process of conciliation be reported back to the delegates within four (4) weeks of the September conference
5. That an independent mediator with an industrial background, acceptable to both parties, be appointed to conciliate the dispute
Having regard to the provisions set out in Articles 63 & 64 of the Memorandum and Articles of The Police Association, a Special Meeting is scheduled to take place on Thursday 3 November 2005 at Dallas Brooks Hall auditorium. The meeting will commence at 12:00 midday.
In accordance with Article 64 no business other than for which the meeting is called, and which is set out in this notice, shall be considered.
