SUPERANNUATION UPDATE

The Emergency Services Unions have commenced discussions with Government on the form of the common law Deed of Agreement proposed to underpin the settlement of the current superannuation dispute.

The first meeting of the parties was held on Friday, 13 October.  The Deed raises complex legal and industrial issues and obviously has significant ramifications.  The Unions have engaged expert legal assistance.

Under the Heads of Agreement reached on Wednesday, 12 October the Unions have agreed to suspend the proposed industrial action pending successful negotiations on the Deed of Agreement.  If negotiations on the Deed can't be successfully concluded by Friday, 21 October the Unions will consider reinstating the bans.

The final Deed of Agreement will be subject to endorsement at a Special General Meeting of members
