SUPERANNUATION UPDATE

The combined Emergency Services Unions have continued to meet with Government over the last week, including lengthy meetings over the weekend, to try and resolve the current dispute over superannuation.

Government had previously agreed to enter into a common law deed of agreement preserving ESSS and the unions agreed to suspend industrial action to enable discussions on the detail.

The negotiations have focused on the unions key demands; that any legislation and the deed, must ensure that the assets and funded status of ESSS is maintained, and that the composition of any new board must have appropriate representation of emergency service workers.

Discussions are still continuing and at this stage there is no finalised deed or proposed bill to be introduced into Cabinet.

Members are reminded that the final Deed of Agreement will be subject to endorsement at a Special General Meeting of members
