Many Inspectors have recently received an e-mail requesting them to sign and submit a Private Interest Declaration due to their having a financial delegation of up to $20,000.
For some time the Force Policy on this matter has been that anyone with a financial delegation of greater than $20,000 must submit a Private Interest Declaration. This includes most Superintendents but does not include most Inspectors.
The Police Association has twice written to the Chief Commissioner in relation to this issue and has not received a response. As of 1 September 2005, the Force Policy remains at "in excess of $20,000" and it has not been altered to include Inspectors with up to a $20,000 financial delegation.
The matter of Private Interest Declarations remains one of the issues to be dealt with in the review of the Police Regulation Act 1958 and is yet to be resolved.
The Association views this latest move by the Chief Commissioner as contrary to the current discussions and has written to her seeking that the direction be withdrawn. The Association advises that members who do not hold a financial delegation in excess of $20,000 should not complete a declaration.
