ESSS Campaign Update

Since the last newsletter, in which the motions from Sunday's mass meeting of members were published, the combined emergency service unions have had a further meeting with Minister Lenders.

At this meeting, held on the morning of Tuesday 27th September 2005, there was still no satisfactory response from the government regarding its proposal that would see ESSS cease to exist in its current form.

Campaign Petition

As a result of the disappointing lack of progress on this issue, the combined emergency service unions, authorised by the motions carried at Sunday's mass meeting of members, are preparing the initial phase of an industrial campaign on this issue.

As an initial course of action, all members are being asked to support a petition that will be circulated at country and metropolitan police work locations by our fire colleagues over the next few days. The petition calls on all the state government to abandon its proposal to merge ESSS with the Government Superannuation Office scheme.

Members are strongly urged to support this petition to help safeguard ESSS from being put at risk by the government's proposed merger.
