  • Police families set to meet in support of alternate hours of work

With the Force intent on pursuing the removal of 12 hour rosters at various locations across the state, Association members and their families are set to meet in Melbourne to protect their right to work alternate hours of work.

Following failed discussions with the Force last Thursday, a special meeting of members had been scheduled to oppose the Force’s intention to remove 12 hour rosters.

The meeting of Association members will be held on:

Thursday, 21 December 2006 at 11.00 am, Dallas Brooks Centre, 300 Albert Street, East Melbourne.

Members from around the state are encouraged to attend the meeting to support their colleagues who are having their way of life unfairly challenged by this dispute.

Members touched by the dispute are invited to bring their families to the meeting and show how tearing up alternate hours of work will be tearing up families.

The Chief Commissioners decision to revert to 8 hour rosters while the Force continues to boast work family balance initiatives, lacks common sense and should be seen for what it is – a symptom of critical recourse shortages.

If this dispute was really about safety, the archaic rostering practices found at every station would be questioned. Quick changeovers and long night shifts adversely affect all of us but remain unaltered by the Force.

Our members have chosen to use a condition of their agreement that makes rosters more family friendly – They are entitled to keep them.

All members are encouraged to attend the meeting, and buses will be organised by delegates to ensure that country families can attend. A free BBQ will be provided at the conclusion of the meeting.

If 12 hour rosters are gone today – What is next?  Support your colleagues by attending on 21 December.
