  • EBA negotiations: Update

As we have previously reported in InBrief, the Association commenced EBA discussions with the Victoria Police Force on 6 December following a commitment we received from Government to this effect.

The Association is committed to keeping members regularly updated on the progress of these discussions.

Since our first update on 8 December, we can report further progress, as follows;

·         Log of Claims

The Police Association has explained and clarified in detail every element of our log-of-claims to representatives of the Victoria Police Force. The Force has not yet formally responded to our claim nor has it yet submitted its own list of desired outcomes (or a counter log-of-claims) for the Association to consider.

·         WorkChoices

Parties have extensively discussed the potential impact of the Federal Government’s WorkChoices legislation on any future EBA agreement reached by the parties. For example, a number of issues previously negotiated in collective agreements cannot be dealt with under WorkChoices. The Association will work with the Force to ensure that alternative ways of legally safeguarding these conditions – such as issues concerning transfers and promotion - are identified and agreed.

·         Classification Structure

On Friday 22 December the parties are scheduled to focus their discussion on the current salary/classification structure that applies to members and how this could be improved further.

·         Future schedule of EBA meetings

During this week, the parties are expected to finalise a schedule of further EBA meetings for the coming weeks.

Naturally, we will continue to update members on the progress of EBA discussions as developments arise.
