Last week, The Police Association invited the Chief Commissioner to meet with us in an attempt to focus on addressing a long list of unresolved issues affecting our members.
Whilst we were pleased that our invitation was accepted, we are extremely disappointed that in our meeting held on Monday, the Chief Commissioner gave us no comfort whatsoever that she is serious about resolving these important issues that matter to our members.
The issues include;
· The Force’s insulting pay offer to members on top of its proposal for members to trade-off hard-won conditions, adding injury to this insult.
· The Force’s reluctance to conduct a PROPER audit of police resources so that the missing 655 can go back on the frontline
· The Force’s inaction on introducing a PROPER resource allocation model that tells the ‘inconvenient truth’ about resources
· The Force’s intention to scrap 12-hour rosters
· The Force’s refusal to provide semi-automatic firearms and tasers to our members
· The flawed implementation of the Major Crime Management Model, and review of the Ethical Standards Department
· The Force’s denial of fair and reasonable compensation to 25 of our members who have no rights to sue at common law
· Continued inaction by the Force to pay members of the Special Operations Group their allowance entitlements despite a court ruling in favour of our members
· The disbandment of the Armed Offenders Squad and the ongoing mistreatment by the Force of its’ former members.
· The Chief Commissioner’s continued interference in the internal operations of your Association
· A review of the Police Regulation Act being used by the Chief Commissioner to grab additional power, rather than to improve the working conditions of members
· The failure of the Chief Commissioner to negotiate with the Association on a welfare-based drug & alcohol testing regime despite her written commitment in October 2002 to honour this principle
Members can rest assured that the Association will continue to hold the Chief Commissioner to account on these important issues.
