  • Your Executive united in support of our Queensland colleagues

The Police Association Executive has today given full support to our colleagues from the Queensland Police Union of Employees (QPUE), who are staunchly defending one of their members.

As members may be aware, yesterday our Queensland colleague, Senior Sergeant Chris Hurley, was charged with manslaughter over the death of a prisoner in custody.

This charge followed a finding of the Director of Public Prosecutions that there was not enough evidence to charge Senior Sergeant Hurley.

The QPUE are vigorously defending their member, holding a series of state-wide rallies in support of Senior Sergeant Hurley and protesting against the State Government’s handling of the inquiry.

Your Association executive, meeting in Melbourne this morning, showed united support for our Queensland colleagues by unanimously passing the following motion:

‘THAT THIS MEETING CONVEYS A STRONG MESSAGE OF SUPPORT TO OUR COLLEAGUES AT THE QUEENSLAND POLICE UNION IN VIGOROUSLY REPRESENTING THEIR MEMBER, SENIOR SERGEANT  CHRIS HURLEY, WHO IS CURRENTLY CHARGED WITH MANSLAUGHTER, AND IN THEIR AIMS TO ACHIEVE PROPER RESOURCING LEVELS AND ADEQUATE WATCHOUSE FACILITIES AT POLICE STATIONS IN ABORIGINAL COMMUNITIES’.
