Thousands of members today make history

Members are to be congratulated on their spectacular show of strength today. There is no doubt that today’s rally and march to Parliament House will go down in policing history.

As thousands converged at Rod Laver Arena and then to the steps of Parliament House, our message was clear and resounding – police in Victoria will not be ignored. The magnitude of today’s turnout was all the more impressive given attempts to threaten and intimidate those members who attended.

Today we have drawn a line in the sand. Today we have made it clear that we will fight relentlessly to protect and defend our proud profession.

Eight motions were passed unanimously by members at Rod Laver Arena, galvanising our fight for more resources on the front line and for the preservation of our rights.

One motion was passed by members with particular vigour – the call for the Chief Commissioner’s immediate resignation.

A full list of motions can be viewed on the website.

Your efforts today have marked the first step in what will be a hard-fought campaign to secure a fair go for members.

The Police Association will keep members updated on how these issues develop.
