Herald Sun survey results cannot be ignored

The much-anticipated results of the Herald Sun police survey were published today.  The results echo your sentiments from yesterday’s watershed rally and re-confirm members’ overwhelming dissatisfaction with the current management of the Victoria Police Force.

Despite the Force’s attempts to discourage members from completing the survey, a critical mass of 3459 members participated and offered their candid views.

69% said Chief Commissioner Christine Nixon has done a bad or below average job.

81% of respondents support The Police Association and Secretary Paul Mullett.

97% of respondents said there are not enough police on the streets.

64% have considered resigning in the last 12 months, citing lack of resources and stress as the main reasons.

The Herald Sun is expected to release further survey results throughout the week.

The Chief Commissioner may try to dismiss the voice of 3000 members at yesterday’s rally, but these survey figures cannot be ignored. It is clear that for community safety, the wellbeing of members and the future of the policing profession, we must have change.
