Rally only the beginning
With the success of our recent rally and march to Parliament House behind us, it is time to focus on moving forward and to act on the resolutions carried unanimously at Rod Laver Arena. On April 8 we let the government and the Force know just how serious we are about resources and about the preservation of our rights, but this was merely the first step in what is sure to be a challenging period ahead. Following the Premier’s failure to meet with The Police Association over the issues that are of major concern to police, the Association will be seeking further direction from its members. The first step will be to call a meeting with your elected delegates so they can bring your views to the table. We will then turn our attention to undertaking another series of state-wide meetings to meet with members and gain a better understanding of the issues at your local level. The Police Association will continue to tackle the issues head-on during this time, including challenging the Improper Associations Policy and proposed amendments to The Police Regulation Act on every possible front. Resources are still the number one concern for the Association and we are also in the midst of preparing for the launch of our large-scale Save Our Streets (SOS) campaign. We have undertaken extensive research in preparation for SOS in order to expose the alarming truths about chronic resource shortages and to ensure that our members are returned to where they’re most needed – on the front line. The Police Association will continue to keep members informed during what will be an important chapter in the history of ensuring a fair-go for today’s members and for police in the future.
