Police Association calls for public investigation into OPI leaks

The timing and content of the report tabled in Parliament today confirms that this report was leaked to the press some days ago. That is a matter of grave concern. The Premier too has expressed concern.  An independent investigation, open to public scrutiny, must be commenced forthwith.

The report was delivered only this morning.  We are still analysing its content.

The media has reported that Mr Wilcox QC has recommended that Mr Mullett be charged with a number of criminal offences.  Mr Wilcox has made no such recommendation.  He has merely recommended that the Office of Public Prosecutions consider the possibility of prosecuting Mr Mullett.

Mr Wilcox stated in his report that he has not concluded that Mr Mullett is guilty of any offence.

Mr Wilcox has drawn some adverse inferences because of the absence of key witnesses.

Mr Mullett categorically denies he has committed any offences. He continues to have the support of the Police Association.

In relation to the President of the Police Association, Inspector Brian Rix, the report says that a prosecution against him would fail.

We will provide members will further information as it becomes available.
