Federal Court matterRecently, lawyers acting on behalf of The Police Association issued a notice of motion in the Federal Court that seeks to suspend an investigation into the Association. The investigation, re-opened by the Chief Commissioner last week, sought to once again examine allegations of bullying within The Police Association. This would have marked the fifth attempt to investigate the Association since bullying allegations were first made in 2006. During that time, the Ethical Standards Department, WorkSafe and the Ombudsman have probed the allegations. Lawyers on behalf of The Police Association were successful in halting further investigation into the Association. Lawyers presented to the Federal Court that the investigation was re-opened only three weeks after The Police Association served a Federal Court writ on the Chief Commissioner for breaches of the Workplace Relations Act – some eight months after the Ombudsman recommended to the Chief Commissioner that the investigation be re-opened. The Police Association will keep members informed of developments around this issue. Discipline/Legal Manager |
