Support for your elected Executive members

Earlier this month, elected members of your Executive, Dean Thomas and Phil Pearson, were issued with directions under s86Q of the Police Regulation Act to answer questions as part of an investigation into alleged bullying within the Police Association Executive.

In an Association Executive meeting held today, the Chief Commissioner’s continued interference into the affairs of your independent Police Association was again noted with outrage.

Acting on the views of members expressed during the recent series of post-rally meetings and in support of the two Executive members who have been threatened by their employer in their capacity as union representatives, The Police Association Executive carried the following motion unanimously:

“THAT THIS POLICE ASSOCIATION EXECUTIVE MEETING NOTES THE LEVEL OF SUPPORT AT RECENT MEMBERSHIP MEETINGS FOR EXECUTIVE MEMBERS PHIL PEARSON AND DEAN THOMAS AND THE OUTRAGEOUS INTERFERENCE IN AN INDEPENDENT POLICE ASSOCIATION BY USING INAPPROPRIATELY THE COERCIVE POWERS OF SECTION 86Q OF THE POLICE REGULATION ACT BY THE CHIEF COMMISSIONER OF POLICE AND FURTHER THAT THE EXECUTIVE IN NOTING THIS LEVEL OF SUPPORT FROM THE MEMBERSHIP REPEATS ITS CONDEMNATION OF THE CHIEF COMMISSIONER FOR THE CONTINUING INTERFERENCE.”

The Police Association will continue to fight against this reprehensible attack on members of your elected Executive and the continued interference into the internal affairs of your independent union.
