Sergeant Review

As part of the Deed of Agreement signed during the latest round of enterprise bargaining, The Victoria Police Force and The Police Association agreed to examine the introduction of non-supervisory sergeant positions in a number of areas.

The review looked at four areas - the Technical Support Unit, Special Operations Group, Prosecutions and the Forensic Services Department.

As part of the review, representatives from each of the above workgroups were interviewed. A range of factors were discussed, including required training and equipment and issues surrounding professionalisation, career development, accountability and retention.

The Agreement committed the parties to concluding the review and that the results be implemented by 30 June 2008. Unfortunately, this timeline has not been met and a report outlining the findings of the review is still in the process of being drafted. It is expected that this will be completed by the end of July.

Despite the delay, the Association is committed to meeting with the Force as soon as the report is complete, with the intention of concluding negotiations as a matter of urgency.
