Association to challenge unjustified termination of 12-hour rosters

In recent days, the Association has become aware of the Force’s intention to terminate 12-hour rosters in a number of stations. This is an outrageous breach of the Workplace Agreement and the Force’s own rostering policy that has occurred without consultation with The Police Association.

The Force is required to follow a clear process when dealing with service delivery or OH&S issues associated with a 12 hour roster. This process must be followed before any roster is terminated. The process includes the fact that the Association must be informed of the reasons (we have not) and the Force must consult with local roster working groups to attempt to solve the problems (in the cases we have heard, they have not).

Rather than follow the agreed the process, the Force has followed their traditional path of issuing orders without discussion with their members or the Association. This is typical of the lack of respect the Force has been demonstrating to members in recent years.

The Association has issued a dispute notice with the Australian Industrial Relations Commission and will do everything in its power to protect and support our members who are again suffering through the Force’s lack of foresight and decency.
