SOS campaign launchedYesterday, The Police Association launched the Save Our Streets (SOS) campaign to call for increased police numbers across the state. The SOS launch spearheads what will be a large-scale and extensive campaign to ensure that police are placed where they’re needed most – on the street. Recent research conducted by the National Institute for Economic and Industry Research is central to the SOS campaign. The research confirms what members have known for a long time - There is no doubt that SOS will be a long and hard-fought campaign. With the support of members and the wider community, we will make this the number one issue leading up to the 2010 state election. In the meantime, The Police Association will this week commence regional meetings with members to launch SOS and to progress matters raised at our landmark rally at Rod Laver in April. Please visit the Members Only section at www.tpav.org.au to check the schedule and locate your nearest meeting. Here, you can also read more about SOS, (including the Sunday Age’s report on the campaign) and contact us with your comments. SOS campaign material will shortly be distributed to members via the Association’s delegates. Make sure you display the material prominently in your workplace to support the campaign and demand real action on the critical state of police resources. Secretary |
