Executive endorses strategy for actionOn 8 April, members gathered at Rod Laver Arena and on the steps of Parliament House to say enough is enough. In our thousands we demanded that police stop being treated like second-class citizens and that the problem of chronic under-resourcing be addressed. However, the Chief Commissioner and the state government have continued to ignore a number of key issues affecting police, especially the critical state of resources. Now, The Police Association and the wider membership must take further action to ensure these issues are resolved. Today, The Police Association executive endorsed a strategy that will act on the resolutions passed unanimously at our rally. THE FOLLOWING TIMELINE WAS RECOMMENDED. LATER THIS MONTH, The Police Association will consult with delegates and assistant delegates. Here, delegates will have an opportunity to bring your views to the table. Shortly after, the Association will launch its large-scale public Save Our Streets campaign. The campaign will be based on extensive research and will highlight the true extent of the resourcing problem across the entire state. THROUGHOUT JUNE, the Association intends to conduct a series of mass meetings in a number of major regional and metropolitan areas. At these meetings, we will have an opportunity to consult with the wider membership and develop a plan for further action should the concerns of police continue to be ignored. The Police Association will provide members with further information as we begin to implement this strategy over the coming months. Paul Mullett Secretary |
