Police Regulation Amendment Bill defeated in Victorian Upper HouseAfter more than 12 months of intense lobbying by The Police Association, the offensive Police Regulation Amendment Bill was defeated in Victorian Upper House of Parliament last month.


Review of TPU now underway A number of focus groups were conducted last month as the first stage of a longawaited
review into the transfer and promotion system got underway.

Fair Work Act – What it means for us The new Fair Work Act (Commonwealth) took effect on July 1, 2009. This replaces the oppressive Work Choices legislation introduced by the former coalition government. We will see the true benefits when the next EB Agreement is negotiated in 2011.


Drug and Alcohol Testing – members’ rights and obligations In April 2007 amendments were made to the Police Regulation Act 1958, to allow for statutory testing of members for Alcohol and Drugs of Dependence. In 2008 the Victoria Police Force introduced policy that supported the law on testing for Alcohol and Drugs of Dependence.
