Caution urged about Vic Pol’s new Working Arrangements Guide
The Association understands that the Victoria Police Force has in recent days released onto its intranet site a document entitled ‘Working Arrangements Guide for Police” (WAG). This document, which purports to provide ‘general advice’ on members’ terms and conditions of employment, should, in our view, be treated with utmost caution as it essentially re-states conditions from the employers’ perspective of the industrial relations landscape. Put simply, members should not rely on this document as it has the capacity to mislead. For this reason we do not endorse the document or its publication. Members are reminded that the appropriate place to look for your full working entitlements are in your Workplace Agreement, Deed of Agreement and policies formally negotiated between the parties and endorsed by members. Unlike the Force’s WAG, these documents have full legal standing, and are written in a totally balanced and dispassionate fashion, free of any spin. They should be your first and last stop if you are looking for a totally authoritative account of all of your working conditions. Should members encounter any problems arising from decisions made in line with the WAG, they should contact the Industrial Relations section of the Association for advice. Paul Mullett thanks well-wishers
