Senior Constable David Rixon Memorial Fund (07/12)
5 March 2012On Friday 2 March 2012, the Police Association of NSW (PANSW) said police officers were in shock over the tragic death of Senior Constable David Rixon in Tamworth on Friday morning.
PANSW President Scott Weber said that the circumstances surrounding the shooting of the 40-year-old officer were under investigation.
“Today is an extremely sad day for police across NSW, and for the entire community.
“All police officers, along with their friends and families, have been shaken and saddened by the incident this morning.
“Our heart-felt sympathy and support goes out to the family and friends of Senior Constable Rixon.”
Mr Weber said the incident once again highlighted the inherent danger involved in police work.
“Just yesterday (Thursday 1 March), thousands of Sydney-siders lined the streets to watch 800 officers march to commemorate 150 years of policing in NSW.
“That’s 150 years of men and women putting their lives on the line every day to help make NSW a better and safer place.”
In the wake of Senior Constable Rixon’s death, the PANSW announced the formation of the David Rixon Memorial Fund to provide assistance to his wife and six children.
